The STO Frequently Asked Questions:
- Q: How many STO were produced?
- A: 1500 STO were produced & sold in North
America.
-
- Q; Is the STO the rarest Limited/Special
Edition Miata?
- A: Technically speaking, yes.
However, there were other option packages (ergo, not a
Limited/Special edition, per se) which are more rare. The
rarest being the 1997 R-package. Only 47 were ever produced.
-
- Q: I've seen STO's with a wood dash or
power antenna. Were these options?
- A: There was only one package from the
factory (other than automatic vs. manual transmissions). Any available
options were installed by the dealer including power antenna; OEM hard-top;
mudguards; etc.
-
- Q: What type of differential came with
the STO?
- A: The STO came with the standard OPEN
differential. The limited slip differential (LSD) wasn't even a
factory/dealer option.
-
- Q: I'm not the original owner of my STO.
Where can I get my Edition number since I don't know/have it?
- A: You can try contacting Mazda North
America with your VIN. Many STO owners have tried with varying degrees
of success depending on who answers the phone. Ask for the VP of
Marketing & Sales:

-
- Q: I don't know my Edition number & I'd like to be included in
the Registry.
- A: As of June 1st, 2008, I've removed all entries from the Registry
without Edition numbers. You must have an Edition number to be
included in the Registry. See above Q&A to obtain your registry
number.
-
- Q: Can I determine the Edition number
from the VIN without help from Mazda?
- A: No. I've tried it & it
doesn't work. While the STO were a numbered edition, they weren't
produced consecutively. Other packages & special order Miata were
produced during the time they produced the STO & interspersed on the
production line.
-
- Q: I'm not the original owner of my STO
& the original owner has lost/kept the dash plaque. Where can I
get another dash plaque?
- A: You can use the photo of the dash
plaque on the Registry as a template for a local engraver to make one.

- Q: I'm not the original owner of my STO
& the original owner has lost/kept the Certificate of
Authenticity. Where can I get another certificate?
- A: You can't. However, you can
download the one from the STO Registry & fill in your STO's information.
-
- Q: What color is the STO?
- A: Twilight Blue Mica
-
- Q: What is the paint code for Twilight
Blue Mica?
- A: 12K
-
- Q: Were there any other Miata available
in Twilight Blue Mica?
- A: For the NA models (1990-1997), ONLY
the STO had this color. It was supposed to be retired but was
resurrected for the NB 1999-2000 Limited Edition model.
-
- Q: Was there a Mazda brochure
specifically for the STO?
- A: Yes. Look here.
